Roughly 9:00pm on Saturday night our sights were firmly set on finding Pocket Bar. This had been recommended to us by a friend who said “It’s cheeky” – what does that even mean when you’re referring to bar? That comment was intriguing.
As we walked into this venue the first thing we noticed was the graffiti-like street art on the walls. It was dimly-lit and had retro fitted decor throughout.
This bar definitely did have something cheeky about it, it had personality and after speaking to the staff we soon realized they also were interesting characters. Their vibrant personalities matched not only the bar but the menu.

You’ve got to love the discussions that take place on a Monday during lunch hour. I overheard one of my colleagues mention that he spent his entire Saturday night at Surry Hills in a pirate ship.
At first I thought – Wow, someone had a big weekend, but after asking him where he went exactly, he told me I needed to go to Button Bar to understand.
What intrigued me was the only instruction I had been given to find this place was “Look for an unmarked wooden sliding door at the lower end of Foveaux Street in Surry Hills” – Very vague , but these cryptic messages were kind of fun.

We decided to start our evening at the Winery in Surry Hills. Neither of us had been here for a while and wanted to try some of the things off the menu.
This venue is large it has a courtyard seating area, inside function space and another level with a completely different concept.
To gain entry into the Winery you go through a delicate archway lit up with fairy lights. You look around the courtyard and feel as though you’ve stepped into a secret garden. The courtyard is always buzzing and busy with people.
The staff were kind enough to take us for a tour upstairs to the Champagne Room. This level is distinct from the ground floor - it's sophisticated, glamorous and vintage. As you look around the room there are chandeliers...
