MISS PEACHES, NEWTOWN

Like many of us Sydney-siders, at one point or another I have found myself in the early hours of the morning, wine in hand, blabbing on about something at Marlborough Hotel aka Marly Bar. Little did I know, that had I wandered around the corner I would have found a sneaky hidden entrance that would lead me directly to Miss Peaches.

Miss Peaches Soul-food Kitchen is a blues-infused Southern cocktail bar that serves up authentic homemade soul food and drinks. This is a 70’s style lounge with bright and colourful interior, comfortable booths, exposed brick walls and oversized logos on the walls.

The tall tables and bar stools create a casual vibe and there’s a large balcony that runs along one side of the venue overlooking the road.

We decided to order the following dishes:

PAPA PEACHES BURGER - House ground beef, lightly seasoned with our famous Cajun spice w/ American cheddar, pickles, lettuce, onion, tomato, burger sauce on a toasted milk bun with house cut fries $18

MAC’N’CHEESE - Macaroni, creamy cheese sauce, chives and toasted bread crumbs $8

FRIED CHICKEN PLATE WITH BRAISED GREENS AND MAC ‘N’ CHEESE - Crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. This buttermilk-coated Fried chicken is finger lickin’ good! Served with Miss Peaches’ mac ‘n’ cheese, braised greens and gravy $20

BISCUITS AND CREOLE GRAVY - (The gravy is vegetarian gravy, because - Newtown) $6

STONE GROUND GRITS - Stone ground white corn, cooked long and slow, then folded through lots of butter and cheese $8

My foodie accomplice @stackerslee_eats said “Hands down the BEST burger I've had in quite a while! They grind their own meat in-house using Black Angus brisket, beef chuck and beef shin. This is combined with house-made Cajun and a little salt to make the patty which is caramelised on the outside and perfectly pink on the inside. The burger sauce - yum! Again made in-house, it's based on the In-n-Out burger sauce but with a Miss Peaches twist! Add in melted American cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion on a milk bun - so good! The fries were well cooked and seasoned - but to be honest I was too busy ugly-eating the burger to worry about the fries!”

We asked Chef Adam what the most popular items on the menu were and he pointed us directly to the Fried Chicken Plate and the Southern Fried Chicken Burger.

As for drinks - word on the street is their homemade sodas are a big crowd favourite. They have a very impressive list of American Craft Beer (all under $20) and over 30 different types of American whisky to choose from! But there was no way we could come here and pass up on trying one of their well-crafted cocktails!

We tried:

MISSISSIPPI SOUR - Laird’s Applejack, Honey & Ginger, Sweet Vermouth, Lemon, Bitters $17

SHINE ON ME - Archie Rose Rye Moonshine, Maraschino, Orgeat, Lemon, Bitters, Nutmeg $16

I am yet to visit the southern states of the U-S of A, but Miss Peaches has given us a real authentic taste of what we could expect to experience through the venue, music and food.

Thanks for having us guys! We had an absolute blast!
