After a week long stay in Patong, it’s safe to say that our fave place to dine was easily and conveniently the restaurant located within our resort, Kantok at Burasari!

Not only was the range of food on offer impressive, but every dish we ate was a perfectly cooked, beautifully presented taste sensation! You can see the chefs in action as they prepare your meals in the outdoor kitchen, and the food is very reasonably priced. There was not one dish that we didn’t enjoy and given that we ate there almost every day, that’s saying something!

Adding to our dining experience was the stunning setting. Whilst there is a charming air conditioned indoor area, we primarily opted for the undercover, poolside outdoor area. It felt quite magical to sit amongst tropical gardens with water features flowing nearby and the breeze from the fans keeping us cool.

Unique to Kantok is the local Phuket menu – an initiative designed to showcase the traditional multi-cultural, fusion food of the island. True local Phuket food is becoming harder to find in Patong as modern Thai and international food becomes more common.

Keen to experience the local cuisine, we were drawn to this part of the menu straight away. We tried:

Po Paie Sod Kub Satay – Phuket-style chicken satay marinated with lemongrass, kaffir lime and coriander seed, with fresh cucumber vinegar dipping sauce and steamed spring roll. Fresh and flavour-packed, this was the perfect way to kick off our meal.

Pla Krapng Thod Kamin – A legacy tracing back to the Mon inhabitants, Phuket’s original ‘sea gypsies’, this dish is crispy fried marinated whole white snapper with spicy long bean salad. Not only is this dish beautifully presented (read: Instagram heaven!) but the fresh, spicy bean salad pairs perfectly with the succulent snapper that literally melts in your mouth.

Mee Hoon Gaeng Poo – Classic Hokkien Chinese and local fusion go hand-in-hand in this broad rice noodle dish tossed in crab curry. Our excitement peaked when this vibrant dish was placed on our table. Think cute little noodle bundles arranged next to a dish of delicious looking curry – it took about 3 seconds for us to dig in! We weren’t disappointed – it tasted just as good as it looked!

Mee Spum – A classic Phuket recipe of wok-fried Hokkien noodles with the daily seafood catch. Topped with a poached egg and swimming in a delicious sauce, this seafood dish definitely delivered!

We also tried:

Massaman Curry – Do yourself a favour and put this on your must-try list! We agreed it was the best Massaman Curry we’ve ever had – I’m being serious!

Pad See Ew – A solid favourite, this dish was well presented, perfectly cooked and totally hit the spot.

If you’re not overly keen on local food then don’t worry – Kantok has you covered with a good range of international dishes on the menu. We had the ham and mushroom pizza more than once during our stay! You won’t go thirsty either, with an extensive list of cocktails and other beverages on offer. Give the Pina Colada a go!

If you’re in Patong, make sure you drop by Kantok for a meal (or two)! Your tastebuds will thank you!
